Notula will not open until you run one command
The build is not signed yet, so macOS holds it in quarantine and refuses
to start it. There is one command that lifts that, and you run it once.
Copy it now. You will paste it into Terminal once Notula is in
Applications.
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Notula.app
“Notula” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it
to the Bin.
This file was downloaded on an unknown date.
Cancel Move to Bin
macOS shows this if you skip the command. Nothing is wrong with the download.
Step 2 of 2, macOS
Notula is downloading. Do this when it lands.
- Open the
.dmg and drag Notula into Applications. -
Open Terminal and paste the command below. It is
already on your clipboard.
- Open Notula. It never asks again.
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Notula.app

Step 1 of 2, Windows
Windows will block the installer once
The installer is not signed yet, so SmartScreen stops it the first time
you run it. On the blue panel choose More info, then
Run anyway.
Skip it and nothing installs: the panel closes and the app never starts.
Step 2 of 2, Windows
The installer is downloading. Do this when it lands.
- Run the
.exe. A blue SmartScreen panel appears. - Choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Notula installs and updates itself from then on.
